Prologue puzzle fix
1666 Amsterdam Rembrandt Book Puzzle: How to Get Unstuck
The library scene is easy to misread because the second interaction is on the opposite side of the same shelf. This spoiler-light guide shows the two-book route, explains why the door stays locked, and separates confirmed store facts from the community-documented solution.
Quick fix
Search both sides of the same bookshelf, then walk to the exit door.
After control switches to Aaron in the library, collect two interactable books. The first is on the shelf directly behind Aaron. The second is not in a distant room: circle to the opposite side of that same shelf, near the exit side, and interact with the other book.
Once both book interactions register, approach the door. The next passage should unlock or open automatically. If nothing happens, return to each side of the shelf and look for the interaction prompt again; walking past the prompt or assuming the first book completed the objective is the usual reason players remain stuck.
This is a narrow troubleshooting page, not a full Prologue walkthrough. It avoids later spoilers and links back to the broader guide for pacing, choices, and story context.
Two-book route
Exact steps for the Rembrandt library section
Use this order before restarting the chapter or changing files.Take control of Aaron
Wait until the scene fully hands movement to Aaron. Do not rush the door before the library interaction state is active.
Check the shelf behind Aaron
Turn toward the bookshelf immediately behind the starting position and collect or inspect the first highlighted book.
Circle to the opposite side
Walk around the same shelving unit toward the exit side. The second book prompt is on the other face of the shelf, which makes it easy to overlook.
Return to the door
After both interactions register, approach the exit door. The scene should continue without a code, inventory combination, or combat trigger.
If the door stays shut
Four checks before you reload
Most failures come from a missed interaction rather than a hidden puzzle mechanic.
Recheck the prompt angle
Move slowly along each shelf face and adjust the camera. The prompt can be missed when you stand too far from the book.
Confirm two separate interactions
One book is not enough. Make sure Aaron has interacted once behind the start and once on the opposite side near the exit.
Approach the door after the books
The door progression happens after the objective state changes. Do not keep searching for a key, code, or third book.
Reload only as a last step
If both prompts were clearly completed and the door still does not react, reload the latest checkpoint and repeat the two interactions in order.
Symptom check
What your stuck state usually means
Match the symptom before trying a larger fix.| Symptom | Likely cause | Best action | Avoid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Door remains closed | The second book was probably missed | Check the opposite side of the same shelf | Do not search for a key code |
| No prompt appears | Camera angle or distance may be wrong | Walk slowly and face the book spine | Do not reinstall immediately |
| Only one book found | Objective is incomplete | Circle around the shelving unit | Do not leave the library |
| Both books used, no progress | Possible checkpoint state issue | Reload checkpoint and repeat in order | Do not download unofficial fixes |

What is official and what is community-documented
Steam verifies the public Prologue page and game identity. The two-book shelf route is documented by an external community walkthrough, so it is labeled accordingly rather than presented as an official developer instruction.
